Dandruff is a scalp disorder which occurs due to dry skin or an irritated oily skin. Growth of fungus or bacteria on the scalp also leads to dandruff. Though dandruff is not very harmful to skin but it does create dry skin flakes on the scalp and causes itchiness.

Dandruff is not easy to remove but it can be treated by following a healthy care routine without fail. Since it is caused by already irritated skin, thus usage of OTP (over the top) products available in market are not safe due to the chemicals present in. Here are some oil

  • Neem Leaves will surely help

Neem is antifungal and antibacterial in nature, thus it solves the problem from the roots. Neem treats dandruff and help in fighting itchy scalp, hair fall and acne scalp.  Antifungal properties make sure that dandruff causing fungus does not cause again.

  1. Boil at least 2 cups of neem leaves in 5 cups of water and let it stand overnight.  Strain the liquid and use it to rinse your hair next morning. There is no need to shampoo your hair.
  2. Make a paste of neem leaves with water and apply on your scalp. Massage lightly and rinse off in an hour. Shampoo your hair, if you feel it is required.

Repeat this twice a week and say good bye to dandruff. Neem leaves will surely help you to get healthy hair.

  • Dandruff flakes can be reduced with Lemons

Lemons are magical potions packed in really small sizes. They are very efficient in blowing the first dandruff flakes. Citrus acid from the freshly squeezed lemon help in breaking the fungus on scalps and hence help in treating the dandruff.

Cut 2 lemons in slices and rub them all over your scalp. Let it sit for a minute. Squeeze one more lemon in a cup of water and thoroughly rinse your hair.

You can repeat this daily until no dandruff is left on your scalp or on your hair.  Lemons are also effective on treating bad dandruff.

  • Tea Tree Oil Treatments

 Excess of oil on your scalp can also be a cause for dandruff and there are some oils that can be really helpful in keeping it under control. Tea Tree oil has been around since long and is known for its medicinal properties. Oil from tea tree plant has antifungal properties that soothe itchy scalp and irritated skin.

 

  1. Take one table spoon of tea tree oil and mix it with 1 cup of lukewarm water in a spray bottle. Wash your hair as usually you do and spray the oil concoction all over your scalp. Massage for a while and let it sit for few minutes. Do not wash your hair but use a tissue to pat the excess moisture.
  2. Dilute few drops of tea tree oil with a table spoon of coconut or
    olive oil. Massage your scalp with the mixture and leave for the whole night. Wash off as regularly you do. It is suggested to repeat this at least twice a week to be it effective on your bad dandruff.
  3. In case this oiling thing is not your game, you can also go for buying tea tree essential oil and mixing few drops in your regular shampoo. Mix it well. So next time you shampoo your hair, you are also treating your dandruff too.

 

  • Aloe Vera can make a control

The miracle herb should be renamed ‘relief gel’. Aloe Vera slows down the cell growth and is helpful in control cells that cause dandruff fast.

Apply aloe vera pulp to your scalp and let it sit for 15- 20 minutes and you can wash it as you always do.

Aloe vera is a great way of getting fresh, healthy and soft hair.

  • Listerine can let the dandruff go away

Listerine is an antiseptic mouth wash and can also be doubled up to treat dandruff. It fights fungus and controls their growth, pretty much what is required to treat bad dandruff.

Mix 1 part of Listerine with 2 parts of water and shake well. It is highly advised to go for the transparent Listerine lotion as blue and green ones will stain your hair. Wash your hair as regularly you do and rinse them with this concoction. Let it sit on your damp hair for half an hour and rinse off with plain water.

This can be tried once or twice a week until dandruff goes away.

Is Dandruff contagious?

This is an old myth that is still doing its rounds because dandruff is caused by over grown bacteria and fungus, which are contagious by nature. Truth is Dandruff is not contagious. We all have dry skin at one or the other point, we can’t catch anyone’s dandruff if we don’t have the symptoms already started growing on our head.
